Andrey Rublev went level with Novak Djokovic when he emerged as a fourth-time winner when he won against Borna Coric 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 at St. Petersburg in 2020.
Andrey Rublev is just 22 years old and has already added four trophies to his collection. So far he has won trophies in Adelaide, Doha, Hamburg, and recently in St. Petersburg in 2020. Before this only Djokovic could boast a similar haul.
Rublev played 10 matches on his home soil which got him the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last year.
He is also quite hopeful to reach the ATP Finals for the first time. There are only two spots left in the eight-man London season finale. Right now, Rublev has 249 points more than Diego Schwartzman who is currently qualified for the finals.
He said that this Friday, he lost his grandmother who was very dear to him. It has been really hard for him to cope with the loss of his grandmother. But at least he is happy that he finished the tournament the right way. He also added that this tournament was very special for him.
He continued to say that he has very high hopes that he will get qualified. However, he is still not 100% sure. He also said that this year he was not expecting to have a chance. So if he is not qualified, it will not affect him much. He said that if he doesn’t get qualified this season, it could be a good thing for him. It’s up to him to think about whether it is good news or not.
Rublev has put up a great performance while playing against Borna Coric. Despite the death of his beloved grandmother, he didn’t lose focus from the game and ended the match with a victory.
