Lucifer is an American television series with an urban fantasy theme. The show is developed by Tom Kapinos. It is based on the character of DC Comics created by Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, and Neil Gaiman.

For those who don’t know, the character of Lucifer was introduced in The Sandman book series. The TV series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, DC Entertainment, and Jerry Bruckheimer.

The story revolves around Lucifer Morningstar, played by Tom Ellis. It’s the version of the Devil that leaves hell to come and live on Earth. He owns his nightclub named Lux. He then becomes a consultant to LAPD.

The shooting mainly took place in Vancouver. Later, it was relocated to Los Angeles. The first season of the show was released in January 2016. In 2018, the series was canceled by Fox after the release of the third season. The show was then picked by Netflix who released three more seasons.

The popularity of the show skyrocketed after it was taken over by Netflix. Although the show is over, it is still available for streaming on the platform. There is a total of six seasons consisting of 93 episodes. Each episode is 42-65 minutes long.

The plot of the series follows the life of Lucifer Morningstar, a powerful angel who is cast out of Heaven and ends up taking the role of being a Demon in Hell. However, with the title of being the Lord of Hell, he finds himself in the middle of a lot of negativity and constant punishing of the people, which is quickly growing tired of.

Letting go of his title in Hell, Lucifer decides to abandon his kingdom and rushes out to Los Angeles after defying his father. After arriving in L.A, he becomes an owner of a nightclub named Lux. However, Lucifer soon finds himself trapped in the middle of a murder investigation where he meets Detective Chloe Decker.

The officers at LAPD want him to use his inner powers to manipulate the guilty and accused to get their deepest and darkest secrets out into the public like the dirty laundry. He soon becomes a consultant for the department, working with them to help them solve different cases.

However, true to his self and identity, he ends up confusing Detective Decker about his actual being, threatening and putting a lot at stake. With the threat of finding several celestial and demonic creatures coming to Earth, Lucifer decides to bring Chloe and his love to put them out of the darkness. However, Lucifer’s actual identity is soon revealed in front of Chloe, and she plans to kill him first but later decides to give him a chance.

With all the turmoil happening, Lucifer starts dating Eve and, in the meantime, Chloe realizes her true feelings for him and confesses it to Lucifer. However, Lucifer returns to Hell to get back to his duties.

In the meantime, Lucifer’s twin brother, Michael, decides to come to Earth and play Lucifer’s part. With everything happening, Lucifer decides to come back to Earth and he finally reconciles with Chloe and they start dating.

However, while things start getting better for Lucifer and Chloe and he starts thinking that things would eventually get better, Michael keeps working in the background to take down God by collecting intel.

Why was Lucifer canceled?

When the fans approached the executives regarding the cancellation of Lucifer, the first thing they blamed it on was due to poor ratings. They concluded that they were content with how things ended. So, they decided to end the show accordingly.

They also confirmed that although the first few seasons gained a lot of viewership and interest from the audience, the last few seasons were a hit or miss among the viewers. So, it’s safe to assume why they decided to bench the show altogether.

Fox Television Group later confirmed that the finances were also a factor, which led to the show’s eventual cancellation.
