Season 1 – Overview and Summary

The very first episode shows the family of Ned Stark, who is the head of the Stark family, Lord of Winterfell, and the Hand and friend of King Robert. In King’s Landing, Cersei Lannister is King Robert’s wife. When siblings Jaime and Cersei Lannister visit Winterfell, Ned Stark’s son Bran sees themhaving sex. Jaime pushes him out of the window and he breaks his legs. 

In Pentos, Targaryens are shown. Targaryens earlier held the throne, which is now held by King Robert. Daenerys Targaryen gets married to Khal Drogo without her will. Daenerys receives three dragon eggs as a marriage prize. After King Robert’s death, Ned is also executed in the first season in front of Arya Stark and Sansa Stark by Lannisters as they want to control the throne and his daughter Sansa is held as a hostage in King’s Landing. 

Another daughter Arya Stark gets lost with new people and travels to new places. His bastard son Jon Snow tries to find Benjen Stark as he cannot go back to his father from Night’s watch. The highlight of the first season is Daenerys’ new avatar. She gives birth to three dragons after entering into the fire as her husband has died. Fire cannot kill her as she is a true Targaryen.

Season 2 Overview and Summary

After King Robert’s death, his son Joffrey heirs to his throne, but he is the cruelest king ever. Robb captures Jaime and in return asks for his two sisters. Catelyn Stark meets Robert’s brother Renly Baratheon and asks for help to fight against the Lannisters. Tyrion Lannister finds a spy sent by Cersei in the council. Theon Greyjoy is asked to choose between his father and Starks family. Theon leaves the Starks and joins his father. 

Daenerys travels to the ‘Garden of Bones’ and stays in the City of Qarth. Arya is kept as a cupbearer by Lord Tywin. Jon snow is captured by Ygritte, a wildling. Jaime Lannister meets Catelyn Stark after escaping from Robb. Theon Greyjon did not kill Bran Stark and Rickon but fakes it. Daenerys travels with Jorah after finding her dragon. 

At the end of the season, Margery is deciding to marry Joffrey and Tywin is the new hand of the king. Brienne and Jaime get close and she takes him back to King’s Landing. Arya gets a coin from Jaqen, with ‘Valar Morghulis’ written over it.

Season 3 Overview and Summary

In the third season, the marriage of Robb and Walder Frey’s daughter takes place. This episode has some of the brutal killings. Catelyn Stark and Robb’s army are killed at the wedding. Robb is also killed by Roose Bolton. Walder Frey gets Riverrun as a prize by Tywin, who planned these brutal killings. 

Winterfell gets into the hands of Roose Bolton and his bastard son. Though Arya sees these killings, she escapes from the place. Tywin makes plans for Sansa Stark’s marriage and Margery is told to marry Joffrey. Margery gets close to Sansa. Stannis Baratheon wants to kill Robb, Balon, and Joffrey Lannister. Melisandre utilizes Gendry’s blood for her black magic purposes. 

Daenerys frees the city slaves in Yunkai. They call her ‘mother’. The season’s ending would give you goosebumps as Daenerys is carried above by the slaves, with her gigantic dragons flying on the top of her and people. Her growth to a much higher position is shown slowly through every season.

Season 4 Overview and Summary

Jon Snow tricks Ygritte to return to the Night’s watch. Sam kills a white walker with a dragon glass, which is one of the important storylines of the season. Bran is given the dragon glass by Sam for safety purposes. The season sees one of the iconic villains of the series ‘Ramsay Snow’, bastard of Bolton. He captures Theon and tortures him. 

Daenerys captures cities with her dragons and rises her power. Lannister gains Boltons and House Frey as their allies. Bran finally meets the three-eyed raven. Daenerys is now a powerful person with unsullied armies and three gigantic dragons. Lysa Arryn is proposed by Little Finger for marriage, but she doesn’t know it is a fake one for strategy. 

The season’s biggest highlight is Joffrey’s death. He is poisoned by Ollena. But, Cersei thinks Sansa and Tyrion have plotted Joffrey’s death. Knowing this, Sansa escapes from King’s Landing and Tyrion is captured by Cersei. Jaime knows Tyrion did not plot Joffrey’s murder. Tyrion kills his father. Arya searches for Jaqen after attacking the hound.

Season 5 Overview and Summary

After the murder of Oberyn, Cersei worries about her daughter Marcella, who is in Dorne. She sends Jaime to bring back their daughter. Cersei is captured by the Black Sparrow when they come to know of her adultery with her brother. She walks with shame in front of the people of King’s Landing. They throw shit and garbage on her when she walks without any dress. She seeks help from the mountain and Qyburn. 

When Jaime tells Marcella that he is her father, she immediately dies due to poisoning by Ellaria Sand. Varys takes Tyrion to Meeran to join with Daenerys. After Daenerys agrees to marry Hizdahr zo Loraq, she is attacked and saved by Ser Jorah. Both of them are later captured by the Army of Dothraki. 

Arya learns how to be a faceless person. During the learning, she is blinded as a punishment. Sansa is married by Ramsay Snow, a brutal person. Little finger planned to get her to Ramsay. Theon witnesses the torture of Sansa by Ramsay. 

Theon soon helps Sansa to get away from Winterfell. Jon Snow’s character development is the highlight of season 5. He becomes the Lord Commander of Night’s watch after he kills a dead walker with Valerian Steel Sword. The season ends with the shocking death of Jon Snow, who gets killed by his mates because of jealousy.

Season 6 Overview and Summary

Season 6 was one of the most-awaited seasons as the GOT fans were waiting to know what happened to Jon Snow. To their happiness, Jon Snow comes back alive due to Melisandre’s magic. He goes to Winterfell. Sansa is rescued by Brienne and Podrick, while Rickon is killed by Ramsay Snow. The season has the most popular ‘Battle of the Bastard’ episode, in which Jon Snow and Ramsay Snow fight against each other. Ramsay is killed in the battle. 

Tommen dies and Cersei tries to kill Margery, Loras, and many others to become the Queen. Jaime goes to Riverrun. After surviving in the fire caused by the Dothraki Army, Daenerys goes back to Meeran along with Jorah, Tyrion, and her Dragons. She kills all the leaders of Meeran. When white walkers try to kill Bran, he is saved by Hodor. 

Arya will get her eye power back. Bran learns so many things about white walkers and he is now a three-eyed raven who can see the past. He also gains the power to change the future. The season has the biggest revelation in the history of Game of Thrones. 

Bran sees in the past and finds out Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaeghar Targaryen and Daenerys is none but his aunt. This changes a lot of things.

Season 7 Overview and Summary

This season shows Arya Stark as one of the most powerful persons. She takes her revenge on all those who killed her mother and her family. She comes back to Winterfell after years to meet Jon Snow. The Stark siblings reunite after years. Sam treats Jorah and finds that Dragonglass can kill White walkers and Dragonstone is made of Dragon glass. 

Daenerys meets Jon Snow and asks him to bend his knee to her. Jon warns Daenerys about the Night King and his army of the dead. Daenerys wants to work with the Lannisters together to kill the huge army of white walkers. 

Jaime kills Onella and his army is attacked by Daenerys’ dragons. When Daenerys and Jon try to capture one of the dead walkers, one of her dragon is killed. The dragon that got killed is now a dead walker and one of the biggest threats to her. Jon and Daenerys convince Cersei to send her army to kill the Night King, but Cersei has lied. Jaime did not like this and joins with Daenerys. Arya kills Little finger.

Season 8 Overview and Summary

The last season of GOT is the epic battle between those who aim for the Iron Throne and everyone’s battle against the Night King. Daenerys joins with wildlings and the northern army to kill the white walkers and night king. Bran is protected by Theon and Ironborn from the night king. Melisandre lights up the fire to fight back against the night king. 

Jaime and Brienne fall in love and Arya and Gendry get close. The night king is finally stabbed by Arya with her Valerian sword. Jon Snow tells about his original identity to Sansa, Daenerys, and Arya. Daenerys has Jaime, Arya, Brienne, Jon on her side to claim the iron throne. 

Euron kills Missandei and Daenerys burns the city in a rage killing so many innocent people. Jon and Tyrion cannot fathom Daenerys’ cruel action. Jaime and Cersei die together while Daenerys burns the city. Jon feels Daenerys’ action is not moral and kills her. The dragon gets rage as its mother is killed, it melts the iron throne in front of Jon. Bran Stark is the King of Iron thrones now, with Tyrion as his hand. Sansa is the Queen of Winterfell and Jon Snows goes back to the west of Westeros. Sam, Brienne, Bronn, and Davos work with Bran.
