What is the plot of Death Note?

Death Note features a unique story that juxtaposes Shinigamis (death gods) and humans.

In the desolate world of shinigamis, a bored shinigami called Ryuk decides to find entertainment in the human world. He drops his Death Note, a book that is used by shinigami to kill people. Any person’s name written in the Death Note will die within 40 seconds. The one who writes the name can also control the place, time, and method of death.

Ryuk’s Death Note is found by Light Yagami, an intelligent but unsatisfied high school student. Since Light touched the Death Note, Ryuk becomes visible to him. He then explains to him how to use the Death Note.

The light soon decides to use the power of Death Note to create a new world that is free of crime and bad people. He wants to cleanse the world to make it a better place to live.

Light starts killing criminals one after the other. He uses the Death Note to write their name and kill them. The mass deaths of criminals are soon noticed by authorities around the world. They are confirmed that someone or something is behind the death of their criminals.

Light is nicknamed “Kira,” who becomes highly popular all across the country. People are divided into two groups: one group that supports Kira and the second group that opposes his acts. Unable to identify the murderer, the police force decides to take the help of the legendary detective L to find out who Kira is.

L tracks Kira’s whereabouts back to Japan. In the meantime, Light’s father becomes the chief of the police force and is involved in the Kira case. Soon a battle of wits ensues between Light and L, as Light becomes more obsessed mental battle starts between Light and L.

L manages to get closer to discover Kira’s true identity. But Light remains confident in his task and continues killing criminals. As Light becomes obsessed with the power of the Death Note, he slowly starts to lose his humanity. Soon he starts killing people who try to falter his plan even if they haven’t done anything wrong.

Light’s intention of creating a new world turns him into a criminal. His obsession with the Death Note is what leads him to his death.

Will Death Note season 2 ever happen?

Despite premiering more than a decade ago, “Death Note” continues to be popular among anime fans. However, there has been no official announcement regarding a second season.

The 37-episode anime covered the content presented in the original 12-volume manga series. Although there were some changes made during the adaptation process, the overall plot followed the narrative outlined in the manga, ending in a similar conclusion.

The major hurdle lies in the fact that both Light and L, the lead characters, meet their demise before the series concludes. Therefore, a new season of “Death Note” would call for an entirely fresh storyline featuring a new cast of characters.

Why is Death Note banned?

Death Note is banned in China due to its graphic content. In the early months of 2005, the manga resulted in a controversy within the country when students from Shenyang City started crafting their death notes.

In response, the school authorities decided to ban the use of such notebooks. While some criticized this action as an unnecessary measure, Chinese parents and teachers supported it. They asserted that the ban was essential for safeguarding innocent children from the clutches of this “evil notebook.
