Ted Danson and Michael Schur are joining forces for a brand-new comedy series called “A Classic Spy.” Based on the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent,” this series is set to release soon on Netflix.
A Classic Spy, which was previously titled A Man on the Inside, is the brainchild of Michael Schur. Besides being the showrunner, he is responsible for writing the episodes. It is his second big project with Netflix after the Q-Force animation series.

When is A Classic Spy Releasing?
Produced by Danson and Schur, A Classic Spy sparked fierce competition among streaming platforms, with Netflix winning the bidding war. This series is the debut project of Schur’s new production company, Fremulon. He established the company after securing a multi-year deal with Universal Television.
Talking about the show, production got delayed due to the SAG – AFTRA and WAG strikes in 2023. The filming schedule officially kicked off on 12th February 2024 and concluded on 31st March. This means, the show is currently in the post-production stage and can be released any time in late 2024 or early 2025.
Reports suggest that the show will have a total of eight episodes, each running for nearly 30 minutes. Given the show’s status, there are high chances it will be released in 2025, and when it does, it will premiere on Netflix.
What can we expect in A Classic Spy?
As of now, the showmakers haven’t revealed anything concrete about the plot. But since the show is based on The Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent,” we can make a few educated guesses.
It follows the story of a private investigator named Romulo, who takes the help of an elderly man named Sergio to enter a nursing home in El Monte, Chile. Their mission is to investigate allegations of mistreatment made by one of the PI’s clients regarding her mother’s care. As Sergio immerses himself in the nursing home environment, he forms bonds with the residents and discovers their hidden stories.
The documentary was directed by Maite Alberdi and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature in 2021. It was selected in the Best International Feature Film category.
Who is cast in A Classic Spy?
As far as the cast is concerned, Ted Danson will appear as Charles, the man who investigates the nursing home. His latest credits include The Good Place, for which he received several Emmy nominations.
