Plot of Lal Salaam
In the village of Murarbad, Muslims and Hindus live peacefully together. Shamsuddin and Thirunavukarasu are talented cricket players despite coming from different religious backgrounds.
Meanwhile, some local politicians want to create trouble in Murarbad to win votes. Raj, a politician’s son decides to use Shamsuddin and Thiru’s rivalry against each other by organizing a cricket match. During the game, Thiru accidentally hurts Shamsuddin, which sparks a big fight between the two religions in the village.
Thiru faces rejection from his people and threats from Mohideen’s supporters. With help from mentors, Thiru plays cricket for nearby villages to raise money for the village festival’s cart. Needing more funds, he and his friends go to Bombay where they get caught up in another religious conflict. Thiru ends up saving Shamsuddin and ending their feud.
Impressed by Thiru’s actions, Mohideen offers the remaining money for the festival cart. But Raj destroys the cart in revenge. Later, it’s revealed that Raj was behind Shamsuddin’s injury to start the fight in Murarbad. When confronted by his pregnant wife, Ammani, Raj has to decide whether to face the police for his crimes or risk losing their unborn child. In the end, the Muslim community in Murarbad helps the Hindu community with their festival, bringing peace back to the village.
