More CNN Cafes To Open In South Korea

CNN-branded premium business rooms, ‘CNN the Biz’, also expanding

Turner International Asia Pacific Inc and YBM Education, South Korea’s largest English education institution, today announced that CNN Café is expanding to two more locations in South Korea. The expansion announcement follows the success of the world’s first CNN Café last year in Seoul, inside the Jongno and Kimpo branch of the Young Poong Bookstores, and the subsequent opening of the second CNN Café inside the campus grounds of Myongji and Hanyang University.

With seating for more than 200 people, the latest CNN Café will open on July 2nd at the heart of the Gangnam Station, a key commercial and entertainment district and one of the busiest locations in Seoul.

CNN Café will also open its first café outside of Seoul, with the opening of a CNN Café in the city of Busan, the second largest city in South Korea located on the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula.

Both locations will provide coffee and light snacks with an environment featuring CNN content across different platforms, including a live feed of the CNN International channel on a large screen, the latest CNN news wires on a digital ticker and computer terminals featuring cnn.com and cnngo.com.

"We are thrilled to see CNN Cafe available in the most vibrant locations in the country. We appreciate YBM’s continued commitment to our partnership and look forward to seeing more creative licensed business initiatives in future,” said Ron Lee, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Turner Entertainment Networks Korea.

“We have received a great response to CNN Café since we opened the first Seoul branch in September last year. The combination of a relaxed café environment, the latest international news and English language services and information and has proven to be a big hit,” said Young Chung, President of YBM Education.

In addition to the expansion of CNN Café, Turner and YBM are also opening another ‘CNN the Biz’, a professional meeting room/space that can be used for job interviews, in-house training, workshops and study groups. There are currently six CNN the Biz locations operating throughout Seoul, with the newest location opening on July 6th in the Gangnam Station area. The venue offers different types of professional meeting rooms for rent, from small rooms to conference rooms with a maximum occupancy of 100 people. Users have access to high-speed wireless internet, and can rent laptops, use scanners, fax machines and printers. Complimentary snacks and 40 different kinds of drinks are also available

Due to the official affiliation with YBM, both CNN Café and CNN the Biz provide special English language services, including English-language interviews, live consultation programs for study abroad, TOEIC speaking practice, language assessment and textbook distribution. These services have proven very popular among young people getting ready to enter the Korean job market, which places a great deal of weight on English proficiency.

More locations of both CNN Café and CNN the Biz are set to open throughout Seoul and across South Korea.
